An 8-part performance step sequencer with a built-in drum machine, MIDI in/out, pattern banks, step locks, step skips, per-step cycles, live looping and audio bounce. Everything is playable by touch, mouse or keyboard.
1 · Layout
Recorder bar (top) — bounces the sound engine's master output to a WAV file (see Audio bounce).
Top bar — transport (play Space / pause Bksp / record Ent / settings Esc), tempo & metronome, and the four mode tabs: PTRN9STEP0KEYB-CTRL=. Holding a tab (or its key) switches to it only momentarily — make a change and release, and you snap back to where you were. A quick tap with no change switches permanently.
Parts row — 8 parts, each showing its instrument name and loop length. Tapping a part selects it and triggers its sound the moment you press (in STEP / KEYB / CTRL; with REC armed the hit is also recorded). Hold SELECT to select a part silently. The grid, display and CTRL panel always show the active part; a red dot marks a part that has drifted out of sync.
Step grid — 16 pads per page, up to 64 steps (pages ZXCV). Its meaning changes per tab (steps, pattern slots, keyboard, settings pages).
Virtual display — shows the playing Bank · Pattern and a grid of value cells. Adjust any cell by dragging or the scroll wheel; double-click / double-tap resets it. Cells can also be driven by incoming MIDI CC, or from the keyboard: , / . move the cell selection, ; / L raise / lower the selected value.
Buttons row (below the grid and status) — the four hold modifiers MUTEShift · SOLOCtrl · ALIGN` · SELECT\, plus the four action buttons (OP[]) whose labels and function change per tab.
Hold modifiers — hold and tap parts: MUTE mutes, SOLO solos, ALIGN re-syncs a part to the bar, SELECT selects without triggering. A quick tap of ALIGN alone aligns the active part. Combos: MUTE+ALIGN clears all mutes, SOLO+ALIGN clears all solos, MUTE+SELECT clears the active part's step skips.
Latching a modifier — slide a modifier button downwards to keep it engaged hands-free (it turns yellow). Repeat the slide, tap the button, or tap empty space to release. Handy for one-handed muting or holding SOLO open on the MIDI-delay page.
Sound panel (bottom) — the expandable sound editor for the active part, with an ALL MUTE button in its header.
Status bar — every action is confirmed here. Read it when unsure.
2 · Transport, Tempo & Recording Arm
Play (Space) starts the sequencer; pressing it again stops and resets every part to the start. Queued events (pattern changes) land on bar downbeats.
Pause (Backspace) pauses in place and resumes from exactly where playback left off.
REC (Enter) arms live recording: part hits and notes played in KEYB mode, and knob moves in CTRL mode, are written into the running sequence as steps and step locks. Live-recorded hits are quantised to the nearest step.
Tempo — drag the tempo readout left/right (or scroll) to change BPM; on desktop, hold N and nudge with ; (up) / l (down), Shift for ±10. The metronome button (M) toggles a click with a bar accent.
Settings (gear, Esc) opens SETTINGS mode (see section 8).
3 · STEP tab
Tap a pad to place or remove a step. Q–I and A–K mirror the 16 pads. A removed step remembers its settings and restores them when re-placed; hold ALIGN while placing to force the part's step defaults instead. Placing a step beyond the loop end automatically extends the loop to the end of that page.
Hold a pad — the display switches to that step's own page (STEP n — PART n): NOTE · ACCENT · GATE · PROB · OCT · VELOCITY · TIME OFST · RETRIG. Drag the cells to shape just that step (probability, micro-timing, ratchets…). The NOTE cell loops across octaves — dragging past B wraps to C and bumps OCT.
Latch a step — hold a pad from 1–8 and slide up, or a pad from 9–16 and slide down, to keep it selected after you release, so you can adjust its parameters and cycles hands-free. Repeat the slide on the same pad, tap it again, or tap empty space to release.
Step cycles — while a pad is held (or latched), the four page buttons become cycle toggles 1–4: choose on which repetitions of a 4-cycle loop the step sounds (e.g. only every 4th pass). A small corner notch marks cycle-restricted steps.
Step skip — hold MUTE and tap a pad (or Shift+step key): the playhead jumps over that step entirely, shortening the loop's feel. Skipped pads turn grey; skips override the SEQ STRT/END window (those cells dim). MUTE+SELECT (or Shift+\) clears all skips on the part.
Page duplicate / expand — hold MUTE and tap a page button to copy the filled pages into a longer loop: page 2 copies 1→2; page 3 copies 1→3 (filling 2 as well if it's empty); page 4 fills 2/3/4 from what exists (1→2,3,4; or 3=1, 4=2; or 4=2). The loop end extends to cover the copies. Steps, parameters, skips and cycles are all copied.
A dot on a pad means the step carries step locks (see CTRL). A red dot means those locks are currently muted.
On the display — SEQUENCER PART
The display shows SEQUENCER PART N: eight cells shaping the active part's timing and pitch. All are draggable / scrollable, double-tap resets:
SEQ STRT / SEQ END — the part's loop window (1–64 steps; also draggable on the range bar). They dim when step-skips override them.
TRANSP — transposes every note in the part, and its note default by the same amount, so steps you place afterwards follow the transpose. One drag notch or wheel click = ±1 octave; hold MUTE for ±1 semitone. Double-tap returns it to 0.
SEQ OFST — rotates the sequence; the grid shows the shifted result. SWING — off-beat shuffle.
MIDI DLY — note-echo amount.
MIDI DELAY page — hold SOLO
Hold (or latch) SOLO in the STEP tab and the display becomes the MIDI DELAY page for the part: DLY TIME (echo division) · DLY FB (feedback) · PITCH FB (±12 st per echo — pitched delays that spiral up or down) · MIDI DLY. Release SOLO to return. Latch SOLO to keep the page open and adjust it hands-free.
Holding a step pad switches the display to that step's own parameters; holding a part button shows the part's PART DEFAULTS — the values every new step is seeded with: NOTE · ACCENT · GATE · PROB · OCT · VELOCITY · TIME OFST · RETRIG (NOTE loops across octaves). Set a default probability or retrig here and new steps inherit it.

Quick-tap fills the part randomly. Hold to see and adjust the random ranges (scale, root, octave span, velocity, gate) without applying them.
4 · PTRN tab — banks, patterns & looper
8 banks × 64 patterns. The parts row becomes the bank picker; the grid shows that bank's pattern slots (lit = has data).
Tap a slot — stopped: loads immediately. Playing: queues the change for the next bar downbeat (slot blinks, status confirms). The display always shows what is actually playing, while you browse freely.
Which is which: a blinking dot always marks the pattern that is playing; a box marks the one you have selected. The playing pattern — and the bank that holds it — always show in yellow; any other selected pattern or browsed bank shows in red.
Cued editing — hold SELECT and tap a slot to select without loading. In the STEP tab that selected pattern is now editable while a different one keeps playing — there is no playhead on it, and the display's Bank · Pattern turns red to show it is not the one playing. Your edits save to the selected pattern and leave the playing one untouched.
LOOP 1/4 · 1/8 · 1/16 · 1/32 — hold an action button to loop the playing material at that length; release to resume exactly where playback would have been. Loops can be layered: with several held, the most recent one sets the rate, and releasing it falls back to the previous.
A pattern change made while looping waits in the background — the loop is untouched; on release the new pattern enters on the next bar.
On the display — VELOCITY MIXER
The display becomes a velocity mixer: one cell per part (0–100%) scaling that part's output level/velocity — a quick performance mixer while switching patterns. With the drum machine active each fader is labeled with that part's instrument. Drag, scroll or drive it with incoming CC.
The header always shows the Bank · Pattern that is playing, independent of what you are browsing.
5 · KEYB tab
The grid becomes a playable keyboard for the active part; the first two page buttons shift the octave, the other two shift the key window.
Virtual display — KEYBOARD:VELOCITY · SCALE · ARP · RATE · OCTAVE · ROOT · RANGE · GATE. Scale and root lock the keys to a scale; the ARP cells configure the arpeggiator (mode, rate division, octave range, gate — RATE/RANGE/GATE dim while ARP is off). ROOT loops around the twelve notes without changing octave. Each cell has its own assignable input-CC number.
ROLL 1/4 · 1/8 · 1/16 · 1/32 — hold an action button while holding notes to repeat them at that division.
With REC armed and the transport running, played notes are written into the sequence at the current position. With the transport stopped, the arpeggiator free-runs while keys are held and re-syncs on play.
6 · CTRL tab — parameters & locks
On the display: 8 parameter cells for the active part. With the internal drum machine this is SOUND CTRL — the part's sound parameters, always starting with VOL · PAN · REV SND · DLY SND plus attack, decay and type-specific cells. In MIDI mode it's MIDI CTRL — 8 assignable CCs sent to the part's output (CC numbers editable here or in Settings).
Each cell has a global value — drag it any time; this is the value that plays wherever no lock exists.
Step lock: hold a step pad — the display retitles to LOCK — STEP N and the cells now show that step's values — then drag a cell: that value plays only on that step; the next unlocked step snaps back to the global value. Locked cells are highlighted; double-click a held cell to remove its lock. A held step can be latched (slide up on 1–8 / down on 9–16) to edit its locks hands-free.
Quick tap a step pad in CTRL to jump to the STEP tab and toggle that step there — no need to switch tabs first.
With REC armed, turning cells while playing records locks as automation.
Part setup & sound types (drum machine)
Hold a part button in CTRL (with the drum machine active) to open its PART SETUP panel: scrub TYPE through the nine engine voices, set VOICE to MONO or POLY, and — when TYPE is SAMPLE — tap the SAMPLE cell to load your own audio file. On touch the panel latches open for one-handed use; tap the part again to close it.
The types: KICK · SNARE · TOM · PERC · CLAP · HH (classic analog-style drum voices with pitch, decay and tone), FM (FM percussion/melodic voice), CHRD (a 3-oscillator chord voice with detune spread) and SMPL (load your own audio, with playback speed and a crusher).
Each type brings its own parameter set to the CTRL cells — so what you lock per step depends on the sound type.
FX hold panels
Hold MUTE in the CTRL tab → MASTER FX — DIST + EQ: DIST (tap OFF/ON) · VOL · GAIN · CHAR, and EQ (tap OFF / PRE / POST drive) · LO · MID · HI bands.
Hold SOLO → SEND FX — RVRB + DLY: RVRB (tap through HALL / ROOM / PLATE / SPRING) · DECAY · DAMP · RTRN, and DLY (ANALOG / DIGITAL / TAPE / PING-PONG) · TIME · FDBK · RTRN.
These hold panels behave like every other cell: drag, scroll-wheel, double-click to reset — and incoming MIDI CC edits them too while the panel is held open.

7 · Sound engine & FX
In SETTINGS, the SELECT button becomes the mode toggle: DRUM MACHINE (internal sound engine on; parts named after their instrument) or MIDI CONTROLLER (engine off, parts named PART 1–8; MIDI out still works).
Each internal part has a sound editor (bottom panel — click to expand): voice type and mono/poly, volume, pan, tune, attack, decay, tone, extra oscillator tunings for CHRD, sample loading, and reverb/delay sends. Its header carries an ALL MUTE button. Type and voice are also reachable from the PART SETUP panel (hold a part button in CTRL).
Master FX — a distortion stage (volume, gain, character) with an independent 3-band EQ that can sit pre or post drive, plus a send reverb (four algorithms, decay, damping, return) and a send delay (four algorithms, time, feedback, return). All of them are hands-on from the CTRL tab via the MUTE / SOLO hold panels. Combined with PITCH FB on the MIDI-delay page, note echoes can spiral up or down in pitch.
8 · Settings & MIDI
The gear button (Esc) opens SETTINGS mode. The grid becomes settings pages — page 1: MIDI IN, page 2: CC IN, page 9: MIDI OUT, page 10: CTRL CC OUT — and the buttons row is repurposed: ABOUT · DONATE · MANUAL links, the DRUM MACHINE / MIDI CONTROLLER toggle, and the file buttons (section 10).
MIDI IN / MIDI OUT pages — pick the global device and channel. Tap a part to set a per-part override (device and channel, or inherit global). The global output channel can be Auto: each part sends on its own channel 1–8.
CC IN page — the 8 MIDI CC numbers that drive the display cells in every mode (double-click a cell for the factory number). CTRL CC OUT page — per part, the 8 CC numbers the CTRL tab sends in MIDI mode.
Incoming CC is mapped to whatever the display currently shows — the sequencer cells in STEP, the MIDI-delay page under SOLO, the CTRL cells in CTRL, the keyboard/arp cells in KEYB, the velocity mixer in PTRN, even the held FX panels.
Audio rate — the top-right of the display shows the current audio sample rate. If it turns red and reads low (typically a Bluetooth headset that opened the audio in hands-free mode), the sound loses its top end and the hi-hat can go quiet. Reconnect the device or reload; the app also re-opens the audio at full rate when it can.
Notes, echoes and CTRL CCs are sent per part over the part's output routing.
9 · Audio bounce
The recorder bar captures the master output — all parts, panning, sends and master FX; the metronome click is excluded. BOUNCE while playing arms and starts on the next bar; pressing STOP lets the bar finish first — takes are exact whole bars, ready to loop. Press stop twice to cut immediately.
From a stopped transport, BOUNCE starts playback and captures from the very first step.
SAVE WAV names and exports the take: a small dialog lets you type a filename first (16-bit stereo WAV). On iPhone/iPad it offers Save to Files / share. PREVIEW auditions the take first, no save needed.
10 · Projects & saving
In SETTINGS, the four action buttons become: FILE SAVEO — opens a dialog to name the file, then exports the whole project (all banks, patterns, sounds, settings); FILE LOADP imports one; FILE NEW[ resets everything. On iPhone/iPad, FILE SAVE offers Save to Files / share.
Patterns always save themselves — every edit (steps and knob moves alike) is committed back to the pattern's slot automatically. There is no save button for patterns; use PTRN COPY (hold) only to copy a pattern to other slots.
AUTO-SAVE] (on by default) additionally keeps the whole project persisted in the browser, so it survives a reload. Turning it off clears the stored data.
11 · Install & offline
Install it — add the app to your home screen (your browser's Add to Home Screen, or the Install prompt in Chrome/Edge) to run it fullscreen, with no address bar, and scaled to fit the screen with no scrolling.
Works offline — once installed it runs with no connection. It updates only when a new version is published: you'll see a small Update ready chip on launch — tap it to switch to the new version.
iPhone / iPad silent switch — the ring/silent switch mutes Web Audio. If you hear nothing after pressing play, take the phone out of Silent Mode (the app reminds you the first time).
Installed on iOS the app keeps its own storage, separate from the browser tab, so a project saved in one is not visible in the other.
